There are many differences in tin roofing today and how it was originally done in the 19th Century. The New York State Historic Trust (NYSHT) wrote a book in 1971, 19th Century Tin Roofing and Its Use at Hyde Hall. This book discusses the different methods and materials for tin roofs in the 19th century as well as those used specifically at Hyde Hall. 

On Monday, April 22 the world celebrated Earth Day. The first Earth Day, 43 years ago established the modern day environmental movement as a force to be reckoned with. It helped lead to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts. Fort Sumter is located in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. It was here that this week 152 years ago on April 12th 1861 the Civil War would begin when Confederate artillery began the bombardment of the fort. After 34-hours of artillery fire the Union surrendered. The Confederacy would hold the fort until they finally abandoned it prior to Sherman’s capture of Charleston in February 1865 almost 4 years later. The conflict would claim the lives of over 600,000 Americans.

Here in Media we had snow falling on Monday, so its hard to believe that the first day of spring was a week ago. But, April is now just a few days away and warmer weather is sure to follow! We hope so anyway...

The warm weather of Spring is a great time to enjoy the outdoors. It is also a reminder that your roof needs to be inspected. After all it has been up there all winter long through freezing temperatures, snow, rain, ice, and everything else that mother nature has thrown at it.
